In this episode of the Industrial Talk Podcast, Stephen Reeve ARMS Reliability's General Manager EMEA talks with Scott MacKenzie about Powerful Asset Management Strategies.
When talking to many companies that have reliability issues, we often find that they do have a reliability team in place. However, that reliability team is constrained because their experience may not be applicable to that role ("One day they were a maintenance engineer and the next day they were told they’re a reliability engineer") Reliability is treated as a project ("Let’s get all these strategies reviewed by the end of next month and then forget about them for 2 years.") Or the work they do is undone through a lack of governance or control, allowing maintenance strategies to deteriorate over time. The conversations we have with these companies usually then revolve around common solutions:
- Why reliability a project and not a process
- Who can approve maintenance strategy changes
- Are your maintenance strategies fit for purpose and aligned to the needs of your business
- How well utilized is the Work Execution Management System used, and do people expect their CMMS to manage strategies also
There is often low hanging fruit when it comes to reliability program improvements, but we find everything should come back to ‘strategy’ and justifying why you do what you do on a day to day basis.
